I Feel At Home | The Great Oak Manor Inn

Jan 18th, 2010 by wordpress

To a friend:

“…I watched a marvelous sunset this afternoon in icy cold weather and biting wind, only a little away from the Inn, atop its private beach, overlooking frozen-over water…went as close as I could get to the water. What a feeling! …”

To myself:

after monotonous several hours
(yet, still colorful, thanks to the occasional vocal guiding entertainment in the car)
when I no longer hope for anything of excitement factor
private gateways begin to mark the much anticipated spectacular appearance
of The Great Oak Manor Inn
she is there with all her compelling beauty
no color, no hue, no shade needed
the modestly subdued winter colors of unique splendor
embrace her frame
she stands out splendidly
emitting the smolder of a welcoming fireplace

I feel at home

despite the vast expansion of this space
what I would deem impersonal
with no hesitation
out of futile habit
I feel at home

the hostess, the host
both elegant, eloquent yet
as if inviting access
to their personal sphere,
no notable distancing
I feel at home

the puppy who acts as one while full-grown
or, so it appears to my petite frame
he and I connect from the onset
how lovely it would be, I reflect, if only …

I also meet the gravely ill
the most elderly feline of the house
without the skip of a beat
I am back in time,
with the one
who took my heart for a walk
never to return …

a mere three days’ span

filled with seeing
filled with listening
filled with inhaling
that authentic self
outside its
rushed and ever so rushing
interrupted and interrupting
fragmented and fragmenting
judged and ever so judging
tested and testing
shell-self

I feel at home
in a too long of a time span without…
I feel at home
